Be Ye Glad
I first heard this song a day or two after September eleventh. Listen to it and keep it in your back pocket; you may need it someday.
BE YE GLAD
Words and Music by M.K.Blanchard
In these days of confused situations.
In these nights of a restless remorse,
When the heart and the soul of the nation,
lay wounded and cold as a corpse.
From the grave of the innocent Adam,
comes a song bringing joy to the sad.
Oh your cry has been heard and the ransom,
has been paid up in full, Be Ye Glad.
Oh, Be Ye Glad, Be Ye Glad,
Every debt that you ever had
Has been paid up in full by the grace of the Lord,
Be Ye Glad, Be Ye Glad, Be Ye Glad.
From the dungeon a rumor is stirring.
You have heard it again and again.
But this time the cell keys are turning,
and outside there are faces of friends.
And though your body lay weary from wasting,
and your eyes show the sorrow they've had.
Oh the love that your heart is now tasting
has opened the gate, Be Ye Glad.
(Chorus)
So be like lights on the rim of the water,
giving hope in a storm sea of night.
Be a refuge amidst the slaughter,
for these fugitives in their flight.
For you are timeless and part of a puzzle.
You are winsome and young as a lad.
And there is no disease or no struggle,
that can pull you from God, Be Ye Glad.
(Chorus)

Terminator Jesus
Last week I went to the Crystal Cathedral to hear Francis Chan speak in the Sunday service. Despite its pastor's questionable teaching over the past few decades, a friend/classmate who works at the church tells me the church has started to turn toward more biblical teaching. That may explain why Francis was able to quote John Piper from the pulpit.
After the service, I walked around the large campus with my friends and came across some of the weirdest "Christian" stuff I've ever seen - a statue of Moses, a couple smiling Jesuses (Jesi?), motivational sayings on the walls, strange old people, a Christian cemetery, etc.. One of the guys I was with mentioned how the more time he spent at the church, the more creeped out he was. I felt the same way. The main building is amazing, but everything else around it was just plain creepy.
The creepiest thing of all? The statue of befuddled Mary and....Terminator Jesus!
I have nothing else to say.

My Winter Break
December 18, 2008
About 90 minutes after my last final, Praise came to my apartment. I made her take awkward pictures with my roommates.
There was snow on road.
I went straight to small group after dropping Praise off at her house.
December 19, 2008
I played with BOAZ!
December 20, 2008

December 24, 2008
Lisa and I went to a breakfast place in San Mateo.
Then I had Indian food in Berkeley with Sammy, Rachel and Melissa.
And we took pictures of ourselves.
Sometime after midnight, I met up with Heather, Dave and Chris and we hung out for a few hours...
until I fell asleep.

Christmas dinner was in SF with some relatives and miscellaneous people.
December 26, 2008
I spent the first half of the day with Heather, Winnie, Chris and Hal.
The Szeto family dinner was in SF with a bunch of people, including these lovely ladies. Is it just me, or is Fiona's sexiness off the charts here?

I spent the evening with these guys. Here we are at our beloved QQ Noodle.
December 28, 2008

December 30, 2008
Boaz!!!!!!
I jammed with the Zhengs and Melissa.
December 31, 2008
New years eve was spent with these folks.
The next morning. I'm not sure what's going on here.
January 1, 2009
I visited my grandma on New Years day. I mostly spent the time watching her eat and be old. One of the staff members told me that she doesn't like going to bed. Every evening when they tell her that it's bedtime, she tells them that she wants to dance instead. Then she does a little jig in her wheelchair.
January 2, 2009
Lisa loves Boaz and made sure that she set aside some of her time in the Bay Area to play with him.
Then we spent the afternoon with these guys.
Winnie took a picture of us and everyone said I looked retarded in it. They laughed and mocked me and then took pictures of the picture.
Later in the evening we went to Sweet Tomatoes and then to Lanny's place to try his cookies.
January 3, 2009
I spent the evening with the Lights, Zhengs, Lees, Yuen and Huens in Pleasanton.
January 4, 2009
CCCAC again! Sammy, Marshall and Gloria led a song. I'm so stinking proud of them.

January 5, 2009
Sweet Tomatoes with the family.
January 6, 2009
I had dinner with Thomas and Esther and CJ and their brand new nebulizer.
January 7, 2009
I watched Zoe and Zero for several hours. Shortly after I let Zoe out of her cage, she pissed and shat on the carpet.
January 8, 2009
I had a short consulting gig with my old company and then had lunch with Jim, ex-coworker and photographer extraordinaire. (I forgot to bring my camera with me that day, so I'm using a pic from another time we had lunch)
Then I went to small group.

January 14-19, 2009
The gang headed off for our long-awaited Last Hurrah to Cabo.
Waiting at SFO.
At the Strip Club in San Diego.
We ate food on the cruise...
dressed up...
sat in hot tubs...
frolicked in the surf...
saw pretty sunsets...
and had lots of fun.

My mother and I had noodles.
